How much to enter?
Cost for the event is $25.00 for each participant registered before April 20, 2012 and $35 for participants registered after April 20, 2012. There is a $5 discount for additional siblings. Participants will receive a gift bag, T-shirt, and be eligible for door prizes during the event.

How do I REGISTER for the Triathlon?
Space is limited, so register early and receive a discount. Registration may be done at the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department Main office from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm until April 27 2012. Download a registration form here, complete, print and give it to the front office staff for easy registration. We accept Cash, Check, Visa, Mastercard and Discover. You may also register with a credit card online until April 27, 2012. If there are still openings, race day registration will also be available between the hours of Noon and 1:00 pm only.

EVENT DETAILS
Triathlons incorporate swimming, biking, and running for a fun and exciting endurance race for all ages and skill levels. Youth Triathlons are modified based on the age of the participants. Splashy's Youth Triathlon is designed for ages 7 to 15 years. It is broken down into 3 age divisions to equalize the field while distances are adjusted to create a more safe and fun-filled experience.

Ages 7 to 9: Swim 50yds / Bike 2 miles / Run 0.5 mile
Ages 10 to 12: Swim 100yds / Bike 2 miles / Run 1 mile
Ages 13 to 15: Swim 150yds / Bike 3.5 miles / Run 1.5 miles

The swim portion will be held in the competition pool. The younger age group start at 2:00pm with each older age group going in order once the group before them are finished. The 7 to 9 year olds will swim two lengths, the 10 to 12 year olds will swim four lengths, and the 13 to 15 year olds will swim six lengths in the pool. (Rest breaks will be allowed).

After the swim, participants will move to the transition area and get their bikes. Participants must walk their bikes out of the transition area. The bike portion will take place on a 0.7mile loop. The 7 to 12 year olds will make 3 laps and the 13 to 15 year olds will make 5 laps.

After the bike portion, participants will walk their bikes into the transition area and begin the run. All age groups will run a 0.5 mile loop. The 7 to 9 year olds will make one lap and the 10 to 12 year olds will make two laps. The 13 to 15 year olds will run three laps Water stations will be set up on the run loops. Race times will be timed by a continuous clock from the start to finish, no transition times will be calculated. Race results will be posted immediately following the event.

Trophies will be awarded for 1st through 3rd place Male and Female divisions in each age group.


EVENT RULES
General
1. All participants must be registered prior to racing. It is recommended that racers pre-register by 5pm on Friday, April 20, 2012. However, race day registration will be available. Race day registration will only be open from 12noon to 1:00pm
2. Spectators are asked to encourage all racers and to not, in any way, interfere with or assist race participants unless they can no longer compete.
3. Racers may not use any type of headphones or electronic devices while racing.
4. Racers are responsible for knowing the course.
5. All participants and spectators are asked to know and follow all rules, listen to volunteer staff, show good sportsmanship, encourage other competitors, be safe, and have fun.

Swim

1. All participants must be on time and ready to go when their group is called to the pool. Late participants will not be allowed to start with a later group.
2. All swimmers must wear swim caps (located in participants packet), proper swimming attire (no wet suits). Fins, mask, snorkels, or floatation devices are not allowed.
3. All strokes are allowed.
4. During the swim, rest breaks are allowed, but the clock will continue to run.
5. Swimmers may use the bottom or an object to rest, but not to make forward progress.
6. Depending on the number of participants, it may be necessary to place more than one swimmer per lane. In this event, circle swimming will be required. The swimmers must stay on the right side of the lane except to pass.
7. Each swimmer must keep track of their laps to ensure the proper number is completed. Anyone not completing the correct number of laps will not be eligible for awards.
8. All swimmers are required to use caution when entering and exiting the pool. The pool deck may become slippery when wet.
9. There will be a time limit during the swim portion of the race. Ten minutes for 7 to 12 year old swimmers and 15 minutes for 13 to 15 year old swimmers. If swimmers have not completed the swim before the time is up, they will be asked to get out of the water and move to the bike portion of the race.

Transition
1. Racers must place their equipment in a designated location inside the transition area.
2. All changes and transitions will take place inside the transition area.
3. No public nudity. Please.
4. Racing in and out of the transition area is not allowed.
5. Participants must walk their bikes in and out of the transition area.

Bike
1. Participant numbers must be clearly displayed while biking and running.
2. Participants will not be allowed to get on their bikes until they have left the transition area.
3. All participants must wear shoes while on the bike.
4. All participants must wear helmet with chin straps fastened while on the bike.
5. Drafting (following close behind other bikers) is not allowed.
6. Bikers must stay to the right except to pass.
7. All bikers must keep track of their number of laps.
8. Anyone not completing the appropriate number of laps will not be eligible for awards.
9. Bikers must get off of their bikes before entering the transition area.

Run

1. Participant numbers must be clearly displayed while running and biking.
2. Runners are asked to use caution on uneven terrain such as up and over curbing.
3. Runners must keep track of their laps. Anyone not completing the correct number of laps will not be eligible for awards.
4. Always listen to the volunteer staff, be safe, and have fun.
